Abstract

This paper describes in detail the application of design thinking as an instructional design approach in design and development of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) course for Educational Technology graduate program. The authors implemented the principles of design thinking and rapid prototyping to design and develop the AI course. The paper will highlight the challenges and successes of the process and if design thinking can be used as an Instructional Design framework for AI course development, due to the dynamic nature of the AI field. The authors present different forms of qualitative and quantitative data collected through canvas data analytics in addition to the best practices and lessons learned for faculty interested in developing AI courses/certificates within Educational Technology programs. The results from this study can provide a template for any other graduate program faculty in Educational Technology that are interested in AI course/program development.
