Abstract

The significant increase of learning technologies available in K-12 classrooms is becoming a reality in many American school systems. The availability of devices and software applications for teaching and learning purposes provide new opportunities to deliver relevant content to students, however, implementing effective and flexible professional development opportunities is a key element for updating educators with the necessary skills to effectively utilize learning technologies in classrooms. This paper offers an examination of the importance of designing flexible, responsive and effective professional development programs that could help improve instructional practices when teachers and students have ubiquitous digital devices in classroom environments, as well as an applicable example of a Technology Based Learning Environment (TBLE) for educator growth. The importance of designing flexible professional development programs that could help improve instructional practices when teachers and students have ubiquitous digital devices in classroom environments is also explored. Participants will experience an applicable example of a Technology Based Learning Environment (TBLE) for educator growth designed and implemented in a large North Texas school district and discuss both, related research and results.
