Abstract

This presentation gives an analysis of the introduction of systems dynamics concepts to K-12 teachers and other professionals, via a course on leadership in an educational technology Master´s program. The specific systems concepts included ¨systems traps¨ (Meadows & Wright, 2008, Senge, 2006), which are prototypical ways in which systems fail to perform as intended. Further systems concepts were ¨leverage points,¨ which are aspects of a system in which a small change may have a large effect. This presentation describes ways in which teachers were able to make sense of these concepts and apply them to situations in their workplaces. In addition, it discusses ways in which they misunderstood these systems concepts. In this way, the presentation contributes to the base of information for further educational efforts in this area.
