Abstract

This poster will demonstrate the methods and findings of the research on validation of a virtual classroom to examine if simulated avatars can be used to depict real students thereby allowing teachers to practice effective teaching strategies and lessons on these virtual students and get immediate feedback. These findings are part of the research project Simulation Enhanced Training for Science Teachers funded by National Science Foundation –Research in Disabilities Education grant. The poster will also give a brief account of the research and its purpose – to improve the teaching effectiveness of special education and science teachers to increase the science achievement of elementary students, especially students with disabilities. The audience will be introduced to the student avatars in the virtual world and their value-add to the e-learning of teachers.
