Abstract
One of the challenges of teaching an online class is building a sense of connectedness with the students. As technology has evolved we have had many venues to move from the correspondence classes of old, however, building “community” can still be a very tough task. One of the newer avenues of exploration is using a virtual world environment known as Second Life. This online environment, developed by Linden Labs of San Francisco and opened its doors to the public in 2003, is still in its infancy for educational possibilities.
