Abstract

This presentation will report on a survey study that examines pre-service and in-service teachers’ understanding of plagiarism and on ways to address this academic problem. The overarching goal of this study is to understand these teachers’ capabilities to handle this prevalent academic problem as well as the strategies and tools (e.g., technologies) that they adopt to tackle this problem. The study also seeks to identify the need for training, if any, that might enable teachers to better address plagiarism. During the fifteen minutes of the presentation, the presenters will briefly introduce the context of the study and focus on the discussion of the findings. The findings will include visuals that summarize the participants’ understanding of and experiences with plagiarism as well as the strategies that they adopt to prevent their students’ plagiarism. The presentation will conclude with implications for future instruction and research.
