Abstract

The fast evolving nature of e-learning caused by proliferation of new technologies has significant implications for training of usability evaluators. First, little information is available to make informed decisions about the effectiveness of these new technologies when used as modes of delivery for courses, programs, or learning objects. Secondly, the rising demand of e-learning usability evaluation services can hardly be met by the available number of evaluators. This paper describes an environment established as a center of excellence in usability evaluation of technologies employed in a wide range of fields including education. The paper gives an overview of operations at the center, emphasizing how usability evaluators, representing a good number of continents, are trained through practice, mentorship, cooperative learning and global networking.
