Perceptions of the Campus Principal in a Technology Leadership Role

Abstract
A key factor in determining how well technology is integrated in schools today is the role that school leaders play in supporting teachers as they embrace this new way of learning. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to examine perceptions of the principal in a technology leadership role. A purposeful sample of 123 Texas K-12 campus principals and 125 K-12 teachers completed the Principal Technology Leadership Assessment; 10 of those also participated in interviews. Survey findings indicated a disconnect between what principals are doing and what teachers believe they should be doing as technology leaders, with the greatest differences among the leadership and vision activities. The qualitative analysis provided supporting evidence that principals need to ensure they provide resources and evaluate their effectiveness, and teachers need to feel supported by their principals.
