Abstract

Increasingly ePortfolios are being seen as a way to serve a variety of functions: a document student development over a course of study; a tool for assessment mapped to standards, courses, and programs; or, a presentation for potential employers all of which relate directly to the design of a system. This paper describes the conceptualization and development of an open-source system that serves the needs of a variety of stakeholders while building on the wealth of valued and existing processes and standards. Issues around conceptualization, faculty adoption, interoperability, institutional support, and infrastructure are explained with examples and illustrations.
