Abstract
This paper focuses on the writing process, a key component of digital storytelling that can help ensure that students are well prepared to successfully utilize the digital portion of the process. It briefly describes the use of Vivian Paley’s storytelling and story acting curriculum in Early Childhood settings as a means by which to promote students’ best stories for the digital storytelling process. While most educators are aware of the importance of teaching 21st-century technology skills, we urge them to give equal focus to instruction in the basic academic skills, like writing, that should accompany this new learning. By ensuring that students have given thought to and been properly coached on how to write their best story, they are then better equipped to utilize the technology that allows them to publish their voices to the world.
