Abstract

Designed to encourage scholarly activity and promote professional growth experiences for doctoral candidates, the Residency Portfolio at Marshall University replaced the use of comprehensive exams in 2003. The purpose of this paper is to examine the issues related to the design and delivery of an online course from a course conventionally taught in a face-to-face environment. Authentic evidence compiled for the Residency Portfolio that demonstrates a clear connection between the doctoral program and professional growth and development is presented.
