Abstract

Delivering the most appropriate learning object for a learner's goals, needs and preferences presents an interesting research challenge. [Dagger et al., 03] presents a solution based on the production of and selection between multiple candidate pieces of content. This solution is predicated on appropriate metadata being available that adequately describes those candidates (and more importantly the differences between them). The ability to dynamically create new Learning Objects at runtime to fulfill the learner's needs and based on their preferences is one of the goals of the iClass project [iClass]. This paper describes the LO Generator and its function within the iClass suite of eLearning services. Specifically, it describes the different modes of operation of the LO Generator and how it utilizes different pieces of learning content to deliver the most appropriate Learning Object to the learner.
