Abstract

In this work, we present the result of a comparative study of the learning platforms used at the University of Guadalajara, for developing and delivering on-line courses. In particular, we analyzed their friendliness and utility. The comparison was carried out developing and delivering a course in four platforms: WebCT, AVA (a development of the University of Guadalajara), Virtual Communities of Hotmail and Moodle. The characteristics of these platforms were studied from the point of view of easiness for course developing, according to the professor. Furthermore we evaluated their usefulness and friendliness from the point of view of the students. A sample of 90 students participated. The students answered surveys for every platform they used. The study was development during two years. The learning contents were those of a regular undergraduatecourse on "General Ecology". The course was taught at the University Center of Biological and Agricultural Sciences of the University of Guadalajara.
