Abstract
The use of course management systems (CMS) as tools to develop and deliver distance learning materials has greatly facilitated the growth of distance learning in higher education. However, the CMS structure reinforces the concept of the course as a closed system and of learning as bound by definite and restrictive parameters. Designing courses whose content and philosophy view learning as situated in the global environment requires new ways of thinking and a different, more powerful set of technology tools. This paper will describe the design and development of a globally situated course on globalization and education and the technology tools developed to implement the vision implied in the course content.
