What makes an LMS useful for a teacher?

Abstract
The main goal of this research is to gain a deeper understanding of teachers’ use of LMSs, how they use it, if/to what extend the LMS is usable, and the most frequently used feature/functionality of it. Pre-service teachers (N=98) are offered a course that they should use an LMS, either one of Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai or Moodle, to fully design a course and deliver content to their students. The pre-service teachers participated in a survey study and posted a reflection paper distinguishing their experience with the LMS that they used.
Applying methods of content analysis survey, written reflection as well as the system usability scale (SUS) survey to measure user’s satisfaction, the research results indicate that there is a significant difference between the four LMS in terms of user experience such as satisfaction. Additionally, there are most frequently used tools, for instance, announcement, that are significantly important to the teachers to achieve goals and objectives.
