Abstract
In this paper, the authors present some of the most important lessons they have learned from teaching courses, conducting workshops, writing articles and supervising graduate student research on educational uses of digital storytelling. We examine some of the critical components of the digital storytelling process and provide guidance for educators who want to teach this technology to students, either in formal classroom settings or more informal workshops. These lessons include a strong focus on preparation and organization before the physical creation process begins. If educators will keep these lessons in mind as they guide their students in creating digital stories, they will find the process to be less frustrating, more rewarding, and more meaningful educationally.
