Abstract

Today, more and more colleges and universities have made online education a mainstay at their institutions. Whether the delivery model is synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid, schools of higher learning have strongly embraced alternative technological representations of teaching and learning for their students. This research focused on examining faculty perceptions of an on-line graduate degree program. The primary question for this study was: What are faculty’s perceptions of an online degree program and will faculty support online education as a delivery method in a graduate degree program? In this study e-mails were sent to the faculty in the College of Education at an urban university requesting their participation. The first part of the survey was designed to obtain demographic data, and the second part was designed to determine faculty's perception of teaching in an online environment. The results confirmed the following: technical support and professional development were still areas of concern for faculty members who are now required to use new technologies in their teaching.
