Abstract

Teaching Computer Networking and Telecommunications to students majoring in information system and interdisciplinary area presents many challenges. This paper describes an experimental pedagogy in teaching a foundational core course on Computer Networking and Telecommunications using a multimedia approach such as hands-on Windows networking exercises, Web 2.0 technologies: YouTube and Wiki PBworks, network modeling software: Wireshark network analyzer. Combining multimedia technologies in the Networking and Telecommunication curriculum proves to be beneficial in bringing real-world applications to the classroom, enhancing understanding of concepts via networking simulations, encouraging active learning and providing students the opportunity to apply solutions to the real-world problems.
