Abstract
Blogs are increasingly used as an educational tool and becoming a critical component of many web-based learning environments. Based on our analytical review of the related literature and empirical data derived from a validation trial on an online cross-cultural collaborative learning setting in which 76 students and 10 facilitators were involved, we identified a host of inter-related variables (e.g., language, time management, social-cultural norms, and motivation) influencing participants' attitudes and behaviours. We applied mixed-method approaches such as social network analysis and content analysis scheme to a huge volume of blog messages created in the trial by the active students. We attempt to develop a structural model that depicts the complex relationships among the variables. Implications for future work (e.g. measurement model) are inferred
