Abstract
In Switzerland, over 75% of higher secondary education is vocational. Apprentices spend 70% of their time as an employee in a company and the remaining time at school. Learning in school and workplace is little articulated. We aim at developing technology-enhanced designs that will narrow the gap between these learning places. Our working hypothesis is that shared writing activities about professional experience can improve the apprentice’s domain knowledge, help them integrate the content studied in school with the practice at the workplace and contribute to professional identity building. In this paper, we focus both on the feasibility of computer supported collaborative writing designs and the appropriateness of the specific computer environment we implemented. In order to propose a pertinent design, we first investigated the characteristics of the population with interviews and surveys and then analyzed collaborative writing activities implemented with a weblog engine and a wiki.
