Abstract

In this paper two wiki-based educational tools will be presented, one at undergraduate and one at graduate student level. In STEM courses it is common that student practice teamwork skills and experience content hands-on in laboratories. These are usually accompanied by the preparation of technical reports and the delivery of presentations to simultaneously improve their communication proficiencies. The current generation of engineering students is tech savvy, but often lack technical writing skills. To enhance their engagement, a wiki-based discussion board and on-line sharing presentation forum have been introduced where students can practice publicizing their research results and discuss their hypotheses. The second part is concerned with a wiki-based e-book developed during a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) leadership program. Students developed an electronic guide for fellow GTAs, which can be easily modified and updated, share authorship and responsibility of content.
