Internet Safety: A Core Feature of a 1-to-1 Device Program in Hawai‘i

Abstract
In the development of a statewide 1-to-1 device initiative, the Hawaii Department of Education in partnership with the University of Hawaii made a concerted effort to make Internet safety a core feature of deployment of devices to teachers and students. Approximately 448 teachers, 8 technology coordinators, and 16 administrators participated in the Internet safety sessions. This paper is a report of findings from a scaled-item section of the training-module survey as well as an analysis of open ended responses in the instrument. Findings indicate that the session was well-received by the schools and will likely continue as a core element as the 1-to-1 programs scales to statewide implementation. Also shared are future directions for the Internet safety training component for schools.
