Abstract

We have designed and implemented a specific technology course for mathematics education graduate students at Florida International University. This course concentrates on the use of technology to enhance mathematics teaching and learning. It aims to develop more depth with the use of various software applications to engage in mathematics investigations, to organize pedagogical demonstrations, and to set up problem explorations. The graduate students are expected to take advantage of various technology tools to tackle more challenging problems in school mathematics. They are also expected to develop creative technology projects and units of material that might be used with secondary school students, which are directed toward a deeper level of understanding of these concepts on the part of the students. The Geometer's Sketchpad, Microsoft Excel (spreadsheet software), Fathom, Graphing Calculators, Calculator-based Laboratory, Internet, and other technologies are used to facilitate their mathematical problem solving and project design.
