Abstract

Today’s educators must deal with a tremendous gap between how students live and how they learn. Even though new technologies that have direct applications in the educational setting are being developed at an ever increasing rate, most schools continue to fall critically behind in utilization of these emerging technologies. Mobile handheld technology has the power to transition occasional, supplemental use of computers for instruction to more frequent, integral use of technology across a multitude of educational settings. Cloud computing using Web 2.0 tools can promote communication, creation, and collaboration for untethered learning. New APPS are continually being developed for devices like the Apple iTouch and iPad allowing students ubiquitous, 24/7 access to their educational materials. These technologies can also make it possible for students to access a wider array of resources to support their learning, to communicate with peers and their teachers, and to become fluent in their use of the technological tools of the 21st century workplace.
