Abstract

Abstract: This study examines the design, development, and assessment of a Health Care Informatics course based on Social Constructivist Theory. To facilitate a social constructivist-learning environment, an interdisciplinary partnership was formed between the School of Nursing and the School of Informatics; in order to, enroll students from both programs into the course. Assignments focused on teamwork, solving real world problems. Evaluation was imperative thus; a survey was created (measuring student satisfaction) and integrated into the course design as part of the summative evaluation process. In addition, the following are discussed: instructional theory, “Best Practices” for on-line instruction incorporated into the design, lessons learned, and student evaluations.
