Abstract

Teaching and learning foreign languages imply a completely different mental attitude than the one required for purely military subject-matters. Foreign languages cannot be assimilated by students without a strong-willed attitude and curiosity, as they involve aproaching codes. By means of codes a community can render values and ideas- important elements in solving conflicts. Thus, teaching foreign languages in a globalizing enviroment is as important as teaching strategy or negotiation. After a two-year experience in running Military English online courses, important considerations can be traced as to what, why, when and how military learning occurs, the psychology of learning, benefits and drawbacks of distance learning for a foreign language; parallels will be drawn to other online courses within the military, effective strategies, statistics and feedback, which all offer an eagle’s eye view on the future of lifelong learning process for the Romanian Military.
