Abstract

The paper introduces the English Listening and Speaking Test (ELST) system, employing voice recognition and Artificial Intelligence for language learning. Two iterations, ELST – Introducing Japan in English, and ELST – Virtual Travel around the World, show improvement in language proficiency based on pre-test and post-test scores. The paper also discusses the transformation of education through technology, focusing on e-learning, gamification, and socialization. E-learning, utilizing digital platforms, and gamification, integrating game elements into non-gaming contexts, have emerged as impactful methods. Gamification, employing features like avatars, virtual university settings, and challenges, aims to enhance learner engagement and motivation. Socialization in e-learning is emphasized for collaborative learning and exposure to diverse perspectives. Minecraft Education is proposed as an example of a gamification tool to enhance ELST systems, fostering creativity, collaboration, and interactive learning. Additionally, socialization features like Gather Town and oVice are suggested to create virtual communities and improve engagement in online learning. The paper finally explores the benefits of gamification and socialization in revolutionizing e-learning and creating engaging and effective learning environments. Adding gamification elements and socializing features to ELST will make learning English even more fun and effective.
