Abstract

Faculty members are expected to balance different tasks in their professional lives for example research, teaching, service and administration. While many faculty members have received little explicit training in how to teach, or in the theories and processes of teaching, they are responsible for teaching learners who are expected to master large knowledge bases or to perform a variety of tasks. This paper presents motivational strategies and recommendations for developing online faculty development programs to assist faculty members meet expectations for which they have not been formally prepared.
