Abstract

The authors propose a definition of Smart Learning linked to digital technologies to see how effective these technologies can enable and empower learning It is argued that smart learning requires smart thinking to underpin the learning process and knowledge outcomes This assumption requires a more sophisticated understanding and design of the learning environment to improve learner engagement; in turn, producing quicker and higher quality educational outcomes It is argued that smart thinking will be at the heart of educational futures and learning innovations for the advancement of global digital citizens within a sustainable and smart learning environment using sustainable learning technologies The authors propose the application of smart thinking tools to support a smart learning environment This research paper explores the nature of a sustainable learning environment conceptual framework in terms of smart thinking and learning tools and how these enable cognitive literacy
