Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of learning paradigm, the acquisition-oriented approach versus the participation-oriented approach, on computer problem-solving performance. The results showed that the learners received the acquisition-oriented learning activity performed better in solving procedural tasks than those who received the participation-oriented learning activity. In contrast, the learners received the participation-oriented learning activity performed better in solving complex tasks than those who received the acquisition-oriented learning activity. It was also concluded that the participation-oriented approach facilitated learners' engagement in learning and self-efficacy toward complex problem-solving better than the acquisition-oriented approach.
