Abstract

The poster session is a form of scholarly communication used in many disciplines to present early research findings and works in progress, The poster is easily adapted to the World Wide Web, offering the ability to collect related presentations from researchers at geographically dispersed locations. This presentation will explore the planning and implementation of the poster site developed for a graduate distance education course. Students in the course develop information products for their final project and make 10-minute presentations of the product prototype. Responding to requests for access to current and previous presentations, this instructor has organized these class presentations as virtual poster sessions. The medium provides an electronic publication opportunity for the student during the course and after it has ended. Students have immediate access to their own work to share with colleagues and enhance their own portfolios.
