Abstract
Norsk Regnesentral was an early adopter of World Wide Web in Norway, and pages have been written using a variety of tools and by people of very different skills. In spring 1998 it was decided to update the navigational and graphical image of the organization on the WWW. Manually updating all existing pages was not an option. Instead a constructive template solution was developed, which provides all html pages with a uniform navigational structure and graphical layout. All existing pages are automatically provided with the new layout, and top-level navigation and layout can be changed centrally. This enables everybody within the organization to create web pages in their favorite tool, and on their own platform, and still get a navigational structure and page layout that is consistent with the rest of the organization. The template utilises the directory structure of the file system to differentiate between hierarchical- and cross-referential links.
