Abstract

This paper explores a professional development initiative for teachers situated within the context of an elementary summer school program. The program supported a “learning lab” environment, designed to build teachers’ understanding and application of meaningful technologies in the classroom. The lab environment provided an intensive experience for teachers, supported by administrators, and free from the demands of the traditional classroom. Overall, the structured, hands-on approach of the professional development within the context of the learning lab environment proved to be highly successful in terms of shifting the understanding and practice of participants.
