Abstract
This paper aims at discussing the design, implementation, and evaluation of a blended learning course that focuses on the pedagogical applications of 3D virtual worlds. The two main objectives are: 1) discussing how collaborative learning in virtual worlds can support learning and 2) examining student experiences of collaborative learning activities in Second Life. The findings from student reflections and instructor observations provide the basis for discussion on the opportunities and challenges in the implementation of the 3D virtual worlds for collaborative learning which includes a field trip, simulation, jigsaw, role-play, group decision-making, team-building, brainstorming, and knowledge construction.
