Abstract

College of Education at Shinshu University is one of the grantees of “Support Program for Improving Graduate School Education” funded by Japan's MEXT and JSPS. Our project facilitates inservice teachers at our graduate school in education to become action researchers. We provide them with professional development courses which emphasize Lesson Study for enhancement of teaching competencies in subject areas. With the support of the grant, we introduced new and easy-to-use HDTV (high definition TV)-based videoconference systems between demonstration schools and the university campus. We have two main goals on the application of the system, that is, (1) to observe inservice teachers’ actual classes at our demonstration schools synchronously and to facilitate their reflection from a distant campus, and (2) to record their classes on streaming server automatically and to have online Lesson Study meetings.
