Abstract

In this presentation a proposed model of IT competencies for early school education teachers in Poland will be discussed. Findings from a study conducted between December 2016 and February 2017 identified the following factors are important indicators for IT competence of early school education teachers: the use of IT skills in the didactic and educational process, technological openness, motivation to develop IT skills, place of residence, place of work, age, IT availability at school and IT self-development. The research also revealed that the level of IT competencies of early school education teachers, both in the creative component and instrumental/practical component was less than satisfactory. The findings support past research in suggesting that providing IT tools alone is not enough to generate IT competence in teachers. It is important for teachers to have the skills and knowledge to be able to use them adequately in the educational process. Recommendations will also be discussed.
