Abstract

Digital storytelling in an audio-only environment provides a valuable learning experience. Unable to rely on visual cues, audio students must create a truly immersive sound space. This requires moving beyond narration and simple sound effects to create realistic audio theater. Students must develop strong scriptwriting and creative skills and use all the aspects of audio recording, effects and mixing to tell their stories. Working to produce broadcast ready stories for radio has provided a valuable and realistic media production experience for our students as well as broadcast credit and portfolio samples.
