Abstract

The potential of the Internet for educational purposes has gained prominence and importance in India and World wide. The benefits possible through distance learning programmes with the help of Internet have now been well understood and this has led to the introduction of many useful courses through this mode, especially by foreign universities offering their courses in India. The success of the open and distance learning paradigm depends very mush upon the identification and proper harnessing of new technology and tools. The emerging Internet and Intranet technologies help in effective dissemination & deployment. The Web technology with its "write once and run anywhere" philosophy is the key to facilitating distributed learning environment. With the use of Internet clicking through web pages is much more convenient than flipping through a book. Internet, and Intranet technologies help in effective dissemination of knowledge and are to be adopted for course enhancements and productivity.
