Abstract

As more students shift to online courses, universities are challenged to provide a comprehensive orientation experience for these online students. The presenter discusses how two different universities began a process of developing an online orientation which both evolved to become comprehensive student resource centers embedded within each university’s respective LMS. The discussion of this best practice compares and contrasts the two approaches, outlines different implementation options using the university’s website versus LMS, and summarizes what topics were included in each of the centers. Usage statistics based on which topics were referenced most frequently by students, an outline of the process, and recommendations based on experience are provided.
