Abstract
We briefly describe ongoing efforts on rendering interactive learning objects (ILOs, here: Java applets) valuable for educational matters. We research into multi-level, component-based technology to permit the reuse and adaptation of ILO design, structure, and model, and to reach a graduated hypermedia interlinking. Our approach extends community support to software components, which in turn become linkable hypermedia objects and part of the courseware repository. However, how can community members effectively work with ILO components, i.e. annotate, discuss, and modify them? We present adequate community support concerning ILO state and scripts, together with a direct manipulation technique for transferring them back and forth our repository.
