Abstract

Integrating encyclopedias with the Internet is changing the way K-12 students study with encyclopedias from looking at an encyclopedia to making one with all students and teachers participating and contributing. We have developed an Internet-based collaborative encyclopedia platform called CyberPedia for K-12 education. This system has good authoring tools and anyone can make a custom encyclopedia on a browser without having a database of technical knowledge. This paper describes the concept and implementation of CyberPedia. It also illustrates two pilot applications using CyberPedia for a field study and a class debate.
