Abstract

Mobile devices such as Smartphones and Ipod Touches have caught on as popular devices that the youths are using today. Indeed, the blurring of the boundary between cellular networks and the Internet on the mobile device also represents an untapped resource for bridging the gap between learning in the school and learning that happens out in the world. On this premise, YI carried out a pilot project this year in Secondary 3 (Grade 9) Express class on infusing mobile technology into curricular and instructional delivery. Ipod Touches were loaned out to all students in the class. Students were allowed to keep the Ipod Touches for one semester. During semester 2, lessons were designed with the use of itunes interactive apps to teach Biology, Chemistry, Geography and English. Feedbacks from a post survey for students and teachers have indicated that the use of mobile devices has a positive impact in students' learning. The paper will also highlight how teachers in YI design the lessons and assignments to make learning using the Ipod touches meaningful and engaging.
