Abstract

Abstract: This paper concerns the viewing of streaming video lessons by preservice teachers during internship fieldwork. Possible challenges and opportunities associated with this promising setting are discussed and a proposed future study described. This study would involve measurement through a structured classroom-vignette observation system. The observation system, developed through a grant from the National Science Foundation, was found to be an appropriate one for measuring instructional choices of teachers in keeping with identified reform-oriented practices by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. At present, very little research has been done on interns’ viewing of model lessons in the field via streaming video. It is a venue that may hold great promise. The purpose of the proposed study is to contribute to research in that setting.
