Abstract

I report the findings of a study conducted with 106 pre-service teachers (PST) who authored videos on key topics related to effectively working with culturally and linguistically diverse learners in the classroom. Survey data collected over the course of a semester allowed to uncover the challenges as well as the rewards PST experienced as they created the videos, as well as the ways in which they anticipated using videos like such in their future classrooms. Findings revealed that, even though the PST were resistant to creating the videos at first, they all seemed to have enjoyed not only creating the videos which showed their learning of course content, but being part of the creation of their peers’ videos as they provided feedback to them. Data revealed participants also learned “taken-for-granted technology skills,” all while compiling video resources to prepare themselves for teacher certification examinations and their own future teaching. Examples and guidelines for their integration in teacher preparation will be provided.
