Abstract

STEM education and their professions are necessary to be competitive in the global economy. Overall, the number of people with STEM educational degrees is diminishing and this issue creates a significant concern if the U.S. will contribute globally. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of anatomy workshops that are designed to enhance the awareness of health care professions and encourage high school students to pursue degrees in health care. Participants will be recruited from local and rural high schools in Indiana to participate in the workshops. The workshops will allow students to interact with various health care professionals and educators while learning about common diseases and injuries through role playing, the use of anatomical models and human cadaver prosections, and technological tools. This intervention offers participants an authentic learning environment and educational experience for the understanding of medical conditions and health care professions.
