Abstract

The increased use of the Internet and related technologies caused the emergence of certain new phenomena, one of which is "Virtual Communities" (VCs). This new phenomenon brings about some changes like new styles of relationship, information and money exchange, educational needs, and learning contexts. VCs are shaped and influenced from these changes as well. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and compare different dimensions of VC phenomenon and look for ways for its utilization in education, specifically for in-service teacher training.
