Abstract

Pre- and in-service teacher education courses at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) are developing curriculum to address the knowledge and skills in undergraduate reading courses, and graduate courses for integrating technology into language arts and other curriculum areas. These courses demonstrate using technologies such as e-pals, blogs, wikis, and podcasts for instruction in reading comprehension, reading and writing communication skills, and vocabulary development. In that both traditional and new literacy are global issues, activities include using a blog for a collaborative project on global teacher education issues with participants in graduate teacher education programs at NYIT and Taipei Municipal University of Education. This brief paper will provide an overview of the curriculum framework and activities used in these courses.
