Abstract
Teacher training institutions are faced with the problem of preparing their pre-service teachers to integrate ICT in their teaching practice. For this preparation to be successful, Tondeur et al. (2012) identified twelve key themes that play an instrumental role. At Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, we plan to address the factors in the inner circle of Tondeur’s SQD-model as a first step towards better technology integration in our teacher-training programme. These factors are role models, reflection, feedback, collaboration, instructional design and authentic experiences. The first of these is teacher educators as role models. Seeing ICT used in a meaningful way helps students in incorporating technology in their own teaching. For that to happen, it is also necessary to reflect on the uses of ICT and demonstrate the pedagogic reasoning behind these uses. The reality in our institution is that only a few teacher educators show meaningful ICT use in their courses. In order for the teacher educators to serve as role models, training is needed. In a pilot, this training will be conducted in a collaborative setting with experts and teacher educators and will involve rethinking the instructional design of some first-year courses.
