Abstract

In order to sustain technological advancements in access and go beyond barriers, faculty and teacher education candidates must overcome the inertia of a traditional thought about technology and its application with students with disabilities. This can be accomplished through the development of new pedagogies rooted and grounded in basic knowledge regarding technology and the application of assistive technology to facilitate P-12 student learning. This paper will highlight an odyssey of the development of a technology-based special education course and the integration of technology as a tool for special needs populations into all teacher education classes for middle and secondary education candidates.
