Abstract

In situational learning, students use a situation as a clue for their thinking; thus, they can experience and learn knowledge in the situation. However, it is very difficult to establish diverse situations for students to experience in a common learning environment, and this affects students’ learning motivation. In this study, we advanced a system of performance and scriptwriting that supports situated and drama learning: Situational Comic Play (SCP) Drama Learning System. With SCP, students can use the diverse situations and props to create their own story and perform in a visual aid of a stage, and have a feeling as if they were in an authentic situation. After this method was applied to the English courses of the fifth grade in an elementary school. The questionnaire showed that the use of the SCP Drama Learning System was helpful to students’ learning motivation.
